About us

V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University is a higher education institution based in Crimea. It is one of the best federal universities in Russia. The University's history may be traced back to 1918, when Solomon Krym founded Taurida University, the first institution of higher education in Crimea.

In May 1918, lectures began in the Departments of Physics and Mathematics and Medicine, both of which were based in Yalta at the time. By the fall of 1918, all five University departments - History and Philology, Physics and Mathematics, Law, Medicine, and Agronomy - had moved to Simferopol. They were housed at a former military hospital, a women's diocesan school, a seminary, and on private property.

The university's history began with the Crimean Territorial Government's September 3, 1918 Degree "On the Establishment of the Taurida University".

During the growth of Crimea as a health resort, it was planned in 1930 to establish a higher medical school there. The Crimean Medical Institute opened on April 1, 1931.

The Crimean Federal University celebrates its 100th anniversary Date: October 14, 2018. The development of new Crimean Federal University campuses began in August 2019.

Scientists from Kiev University were among the first to establish Taurida University. They elected the first board, which was led by Rector, an important figure in medical science, Professor Roman Gelwig. Academician Vladimir Vernadsky was elected rector of the University upon his death on October 13, 1920.

With the foundation of Soviet rule, the University was restructured. The name was changed to M.V. Frunze Crimean University on February 1, 1921. During the 1920s and early 1930s, it laid the groundwork for the development of three higher education institutions: educational, medical, and agricultural.
